CougarVISION now available on your television!
CougarVISION is a service designed to provide video programming over the Residential Life & Housing data network in Cougar Village. CougarVISION offers local, national and University of Houston’s own, Student Video Network.
CougarVISION is only available on campus in Cougar Village at the present time. Availability may be expanded to cover all residence halls at a future time.
Please note that CougarVISION is only available from Cougar Village on your room’s wired Ethernet connection.
All equipment issued with the Stingray set top box must be returned with the unit at the end of the rental period, usually December or May. Failure to do so will incur the replacement costs of up to the full price of the unit ($650).
System requirements & set up
- Television with HDMI, component, or composite video inputs, along with the appropriate cables if not using composite video.
- Set top box rented for the semester or year from the Moody Towers Service Center.
- Ethernet cord
The Ethernet cord from the wall connection should go into the jack marked Primary on the back of the Stingray set top box. Depending on how you wish to hook up your television, connect the video to either the HDMI. Component, or Composite video connections; connect the audio from the television to the Audio L+R jacks. The SPDIF audio cannot be used at this time. Composite Video and Audio cables come with the unit, along with a remote control and power supply as shown below.
Turn on your television and change to the appropriate input that you used to connect the Stingray set top box; turn on the Stingray set top box with the remote provided with it. After it completes it setup you should see a channel guide listing all available channels; you should see a screen like this. If not simply press the Guide button on the remote, scroll down through the list of channels and press OK on the remote when you find one you like.
