Windows 2000/XP Ethernet Setup These instructions are for our residents to use to set up their computers for use on the Ethernet network in the Residence Halls. These instructions are based on a Windows XP computer. Normally, the 2000/XP versions of the
Windows operating systems will automatically configure correctly. If necessary, install your network card and software as directed by your card's instructions. Make sure that the correct drivers are installed for your network card (usually on a single disk/CD included with your network card). Connect the Ethernet cable from your card to the wall jack.
If your card's instructions are not successful in setting up the network, follow the instructions below.
Check your Networking Settings.
Panel, then double-click on Internet Options.
Click on the Connections tab


Check your TCP/IP Settings

Click on your

Network Connections, and double-click on your Local Area Connection,
Note: If you click on the Support Tab, and then the Details button, your MAC or Physical address will be listed along with other useful information.

Your settings should match the picture above. No further setup is required.

Close all open windows by clicking OK, and close the Control Panel.
Restart your computer and test your connection by opening up your web browser. |
